What We Believe

We Believe In Advancing His Kingdom

We believe our sole existence and reason for creation is to glorify God. Therefore, Church of the Living Word exists for no other reason than to advance the Kingdom. We do this by using our time, talents, and resources as the Holy Spirit directs us. Since we are serving God’s agenda and not our own we can take joy in serving those who may never return the favor (Luke 14:12-14). We will regularly partner with a wide variety of churches and rejoice when people join their fellowships (John 17:23-23). It is all about His Kingdom and Glory not ours!

We Believe In Walking By Faith

Church of the Living Word walks by faith. With Christ we will be able to achieve great things (John 15:5). Without him we can do nothing (Ephesians 2:1-3). Jesus, alone, has destroyed the power of sin. Faith in him will cause us to live the radical, eternal lives he created us for (Ephesians 2:8, Luke 10:25-28). By having faith without compromise, we are able to enjoy the richness of God’s unimpeachable leadership!

We Believe in Following Jesus

Church of the Living Word is passionate about empowering people to live like Jesus (1 John 2:6). Disciples seek to walk, talk, think, feel, and act like their master. Even when Jesus tells us to do things we don’t want to do (Luke 9:57-62), we obey, without reservation, because we trust that He knows exactly what we need!

We Believe in Salvation

Church of the Living Word is made of people who will take the risk and boldly go and rescue the lost (Luke 5:31). Indeed, we ask the Lord to give us our neighborhoods, cities and nations (Psalm 2:8). Jesus never said, “Build it and people will come to you.” Our mission is to establish a rescue mission one yard from the gates of Hell. This is not a cute tagline, but a mandate to go into the communities . . . even to the ends of the earth to make disciples!

We Believe in His Everlasting Love

Church of the Living Word lavishes outrageous love on every sinner who turns to follow Jesus (Luke 15:21-24), and even those who don’t (Mark 10:20-22, Matthew 5:43-47). We consider no human intrinsically better or worse than another. We follow Paul’s example: As far as we know, we are the worst sinners on the face of the earth (1 Timothy 1:15). We will live as a community united in love (Acts 2:42-47). Love is crazy. Love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:1-13)!

We Believe in God’s Glorious Power

Church of the Living Word is excited that the Kingdom of God is not a matter of talk, but power (1 Corinthians 4:20). We seek God’s power frequently through prayer, fasting, confession, reading of scripture and gathering together. We eagerly desire the “greater” things that Jesus talked about (John 14:12), but we will exercise all of the gifts by the order of the Spirit and in submission to God’s Word (1 Corinthians 14:26-33)!
