Genesis 17:1-4-Lexham English Bible
1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to Abram. And he
said to him, “I am El-Shaddai; walk before me and be blameless
2 so that I may make my covenant between me and you and may multiply you
exceedingly.”
3 Then Abram fell upon his face and God spoke with him, saying,
4 “As for me, behold, my covenant shall be with you, and you shall be the father
of a multitude of nations.
Gen. 15:7
And He said to him, “I am yahweh, who brought you out of Ur of the
Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.”
Yahweh – Self- existent eternal one, He is present with HIS people, He is always
near, intervening in history on behalf of his people. The knowledge of God’s proper
name implies a covenant relationship. The name yahweh brings forth images of
God’s saving power in the lives of his people.
El-shaddai-The God of plenty, the God of more than enough… creator and
preserver of the world.
